Pablo - Not A Picasso

Pablo – not a Picasso

The movie ‘Dangal’ marked the initiation of a 19 year old named Pablo in the film industry. He was one of the Assistant Directors of Nitesh Tiwari and was actively involved in every little aspects of film-making process - right from taking part in recee to sourcing properties. He wanted to learn the craft of filmmaking from the scratch. Interestingly, Pablo is not new to this environment. He comes from a very-established filmy family.

His father, a noted alumnus of IIT-Bombay, has made his splash in the film world in 1988 with his big-ticket directorial debut – ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’. The film, a take on Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’, won the hearts of public and critics alike. Among the eight Filmfare Awards, it also won Mansoor Khan the Best Director Award. It also won the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment in the 36th National Film Award.

After making a few more movies, he has decided to leave the posh life of tinsel town to don the muddy boots of a farmer. Amidst the serene beauty of Nilgiri Hills in Coonoor, he bought 7 acres of land, seven cows and two goats and decided to become an ‘organic farmer’. The maker of hit films, is now busy making cheese.

He said - “I would not say it was a very sudden decision. It was a deep-rooted desire from my childhood days , we had land near Panvel and I just felt deeply connected , when my sister and I would go and plant bhindi with our bare hands. I went abroad to Cornell and then to MIT but just wasn’t happy. My father that time suggested why don’t you try your hand in filming? My prime objective even then was to live off the land, films were just a stop gap arrangement till I could live the life I wanted to. I was there in Cornell and MIT from 1979 to 1980 and then chose to opt out in my last year at MIT. I was very fond of sailing and had land at that time near Alibaug. The government then wanted to acquire land for an airport and that’s when I became familiar with this whole debate of land acquisition and land rights.”

Mansoor Khan has also authored the 2013-book: ‘The Third Curve’, which talks about the world economy. It gives a deep insight into the financial markets and the economic status of the world. It will help the readers realize and identify the concept of sustainable energy and its importance in transforming the state of world economy.

My First Interview My first outing as a Quiz Master at BIT Mesra during their annual Tech-Fest, Pantheon-2018 was a truly memorable one. Right from the reception to hospitality to stage-management - everything was absolutely spot-on. The outing was more memorable because I have experienced a certain first in my life.
