1. Before confirming Salil Chowdhary as the
music composer for ‘Anand’, director Hrishikesh Mukherjee approached someone
else (X) who had a little bit of experience of composing a few soulful numbers
in the regional cinema. In fact, popular composer-singer C. Ramachandra also
sang under X’s baton in one of those movies. Incidentally, X politely refused
the offer which could have marked X’s debut as a music composer in the hindi
film industry.

Ans. – Lata Mangeshkar. (She used to compose music for Marathi films using a male identity – Anandghan. She wanted to keep it as a secret but was outed at an awards ceremony when one of the four Marathi films for which wrote the music ended up a multi-award winner. “No one knew I was composing film music, but then ‘Sadhi Manas’ went on to win eight Maharashtra state awards, including best music.” On the awards night in 1966, Lata said she accepted the best singer award, "and then the best music award was announced. “I stayed firmly in my seat. The master of ceremonies explained that the music composer Anandghan was none other than Lata Mangeshkar. So I was forced to publicly accept the award.”)

2. An
unusual film in the road-genre, ‘Madras To Pondicherry’ was made in Tamil in
the 1960s. It’s commercial success prompted filmmakers to remake it in Hindi as
‘Bombay to Goa’ (1972). According to a report published in ‘The Hindu’, the
lead role of this hindi film was first offered to a handsome young man who
refused it due to several reasons, one being the fear of tarnishing his family
prestige. His loss ultimately turned out to be a big gain for Amitabh.

3. Goanese singer Annette Pinto has stopped
doing playback long ago but acted as the grandmother of Lawrence (Prateik
Babbar) in the 2011 movie ‘Dum Maaro Dum’. During her heydays, she sang quite a
few songs in movies like ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘The Great Gambler’, ‘The
Burning Train’, ‘Kudrat’ and ‘Wardaat’. Apart from her songs, bolly-buffs like
to remember her where the music composer of a Big B starrer decided to use her
vocal prowess in a unique way.
What is being talked about? Identify that 1980s movie where for a certain reason, one of the characters played by him was named Ravi.
Ans. – The special background score to mark the entry of the
villainious character of Babu (played by Amitabh) in ‘Satte Pe Satta’. (In a
stroke of genius, R.D. Burman made her gargle and used that coarse sound within
the background score to make a chilling tune.)

4. Sung by Mohd. Rafi, lyrics of the song Ek Patein Ki Baat Bataun emphasized on national integration. In the picturisation of that song, Amitabh Bachchan appeared on-screen in the garb of famous Indians like Swami Vivekanada, Rabindranath Tagore, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Lala Lajpat Rai.
