Happy Birthday, K..K..K..King Khan

Happy Birthday, K..K..K..King Khan

On the occasion of the birthday of Shahrukh Khan,  I am sharing 3 interesting trivia about his films. Hope you will like it.

1.         As reported during 2006, Colombian sensation Shakira expressed her desire to be a part of a hindi movie after being inspired by her Indian-themed performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. Shakira and her troupe performed a hip-shaking Bollywood-inspired rendition of ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ at that award ceremony. The routine was choreographed by our very own Farah Khan.

Shakira was so impressed while working with Farah during rehearsals for the show, she asked if she could dance in her forthcoming movie. Despite lot of media reports, it ultimately turned out to be a damp squib.

Instead, Farah’s directorial venture ‘Om Shanti Om’, released in 2007, had the dance number Dard-e-Disco featuring SRK.

2.         Yash Chopra-directed ‘Darr’, released in 1993, is considered to be a milestone in the career of SRK. The much-appreciated film received 10 nominations at the 39th Filmfare Awards, including Best Film, Best Director for Chopra, Best Actor for Deol, Best Actress for Chawla, and Best Villain for Khan, and won 2 awards, including Best Comedian for Kher. It has also won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

It’s a pretty well known fact that Sanjay Dutt was the original choice of the role of antagonist Rahul, but Yash Chopra was unable to finalize him because of his jail sentence. As luck would have it, Aamir Khan also rejected the role for certain differences of opinion with the director. Finally, the genre-defying role fall into the lap of SRK.

Interestingly, Hrithik Roshan also has a pretty significant connection with that movie. It was actually Hrithik and Uday Chopra who suggested the story after watching the romantic thriller ‘Dead Calm’, starring Nicole Kidman and Sam Neill. They coaxed Aditya Chopra to watch that film. After watching that film, Aditya decided to Indianise the plot and conceptualize ‘Darr’. Moreover, the title of the cult 1993-film too was taken from an amateur short film made by Hrithik.

3.         Initially conceived about a man trying to commit suicide, the plotline of ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ was changed completely. On the suggestion of SRK, director Imtiaz Ali revitalised the story by making it a more jolly film. From it’s working title ‘Production No. 52’, the film underwent a lot of name changes - from ‘The Ring’ to ‘Rahnuma’ to ‘Raula’. Finally it was decided that whoever could come up with the perfect title, he or she would be given a reward of Rs. 5000.

The name ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ was finally suggested by Ranbir Kapoor. As announced, SRK himself presented him the winning amount.

When the title of the film was revealed, it received considerable backlash from people who accused that it must be a copy of the 1989 Hollywood iconic film ‘When Harry Met Sally’ or that it must have been inspired by it. However, contrary to popular beliefs, the two films have no distinct similarity or connection with one another.

Happy reading!!!

My First Interview

My First Interview My first outing as a Quiz Master at BIT Mesra during their annual Tech-Fest, Pantheon-2018 was a truly memorable one. Right from the reception to hospitality to stage-management - everything was absolutely spot-on. The outing was more memorable because I have experienced a certain first in my life. For the first time ever, I gave an ‘interview’. It was conducted by the representatives of the News and Publication Society of the institution. Here are some excerpts from that talk: Q1. How was your experience visiting Jharkhand? T his is my second visit to Jharkhand. I came here in the month of January to host the CBSE Heritage Quiz for students. This time I was brought in to host a quiz for young adults. BIT Mesra has a long history associated with it and it was an honor to receive an invitation to host a quiz in this institution. Meeting young, dynamic and talented quizzers who participated in the quiz was a very nice experience for me. Q2. Sherlock Homes has his ‘...
